AUTHENTIC SOURCE OF APPLIED FUNCTIONAL SCIENCE®

3DMAPS and CAFS are the most innovative and comprehensive certifications available and empowers you to analyze the entire three-dimensional Chain Reaction® function of the human body, as well as equips you with a powerful, ongoing performance system.

TRADITIONAL LEARNING VERSUS FUNCTIONAL LEARNING

Arthur Ashe is quoted as saying, “Success is a journey, not a destination. The doing is often more important than the outcome.” The same can be said about learning … it, too, is a journey and not a destination. Gray Institute® exists because our learning should never stop.

There is a drastic difference between traditional education and functional learning. Functional learning is also another way of saying Applied Functional Science® (AFS). AFS is the common thread to all that Gray Institute® delivers. AFS is based on scientific truth – not theory – that strategically links to the most effective and efficient techniques for the individual.

How can you learn more about AFS? No matter where you are in your career, Gray Institute® has various on-ramps to this learning highway. These on-ramps will enhance your learning, challenge your education, and equip you to better serve the individuals who entrust you in their prevention, performance, and rehabilitation.

WHAT IS TRULY FUNCTIONAL?

3DMAPS equips you with the “Functional Spectrum” in order to identify what is functional and what is not. Function is individualized. Function is context-dependent. This spectrum is scientifically grounded in the Physical Sciences (Environment, Gravity, Ground Reaction Force, Mass, and Momentum), Biological Sciences (Motion, Reaction, Proprioceptors, Muscles, Joints, Task, Specificity, Mobility, and Stability), and Behavioral Sciences (Success, Encouragement, Control, Empowerment, Relevance, and Significance).

ARE THE MOVEMENT RELEVANT TO GLOBAL HUMAN MOVEMENT?

3DMAPS leverages movements that are authentic to everyday life (overall global function of the human body) in both the analysis movements and the performance movements. 3DMAPS analyzes the entire body in all three planes of motion in the context of both mobility (flexibility, range of motion) and stability (strength, control of motion).

Our bodies have primary complexes, eleven (11) to be exact – right subtalar / ankle, left subtalar / ankle, right knee, left knee, right hip, left hip, lumbar spine, thoracic spine, cervical spine, right shoulder, left shoulder. Each complex moves in three (3) planes of motion, two (2) motions in each plane. Therefore, there are sixty-six (66) motions that should (and need to) be considered (for both mobility and stability). 3DMAPS accomplishes this feat in succinct, functional movement patterns.

Gray Institute 3DMAPS is the most innovative and comprehensive certification available and empowers you to analyze the entire three-dimensional Chain Reaction® function of the human body, as well as equips you with a powerful, ongoing performance system.

Gray Institute CAFS is the fist certification of its kind that will empower the movement professional to treat and train every client as a unique individual. There are no universal protocols or screens that apply to all clients. Instead, CAFS will reveal a process of observation and manipulation to identify dysfunction and create treatments and programs for the client’s specific needs based on their individual abilities and goals.

GRAY INSTITUTE 3D MOVEMENT ANALYSIS  & PERFORMANCE SYSTEMS (3DMAPS)

WHAT IS 3DMAPS?

Real life, real challenges. Whether your patient is a casual golfer or star athlete, determining the right approach to treatment can be challenging. That’s why the Gray Institute offers an innovative, effective, and comprehensive approach to patient rehabilitation. Three-Dimensional Movement Analysis and Performance System (3DMAPS) leverages movements that are authentic to everyday life by utilizing all three planes of motion. This system allows the practitioner to examine, evaluate, and treat patients based on the philosophy that the influence of one part of the body effects another.

3DMAPS (3D Movement Analysis & Performance System) is the most innovative way to effectively analyze and enhance the entire body in an efficient, revealing, and evidence-based manner. This certification equips you, the movement professional, with the content, competence, and confidence to meet the needs, wants, and goals of all of your patients and clients. Unlike any other movement screen, 3DMAPS is a movement analysis and performance system that applies to the three-dimensionality and abilities of all individuals and all of human function. 3DMAPS boils down all of human movement (the three-dimensional interaction of joints, muscles, and proprioceptors) into 6 Vital Transformational Zones, adapts these movements within Mobility Analysis Movements (assessing range of motion) and Stability Analysis Movements (assessing control of motion), and empowers you to then prioritize the best and most logical progressions in serving your patients and clients better.

3DMAPS FAQ’S

How is 3DMAPS different than other screens / scans / analyses in the Movement Industry?
3DMAPS leverages movements that are authentic to everyday life (overall global function of the human body) in both the analysis movements and the performance movements. 3DMAPS analyzes the entire body in all three planes of motion in the context of both mobility (flexibility, range of motion) and stability (strength, control of motion). 3DMAPS does not use an arbitrary scoring system, yet highlights a Relative Success Code based on the individual. This Relative Success Code directly correlates with all analysis and performance movements, so the sequence is specific to the individual.
Are there any prerequisites for 3DMAPS?
No, 3DMAPS is ideal for all Movement Professionals at any level and at any point of their career.
How long is 3DMAPS?
The online content is 8+ hours. The live content (which also includes the online content) is an 8- hour (full day) seminar.
How is one granted as being certified?
Throughout 3DMAPS, online exams are given in which the practitioner must pass in order to gain certification. Live attendees will need to access and pass the online exams in order to be certified. This is value-add for the live events so that time is focused on content and not on “sitting down” for the exams.
Will 3DMAPS require ongoing education to remain certified?
No, once certified, always certified. 3DMAPS, through Gray Institute®, will provide ongoing education and application of the information on its website of video assets (on the 3DMAPS Channel).
Are there any ongoing assets during and after the certification?
Yes, most certainly! Once certified, one receives exclusive access to 3DMAPS Exercise Library & App. Furthermore, one may access continued educational support via GrayInstitute.com (on the 3DMAPS Channel and other channels).
Will one receive a certificate of completion?
Yes, one will receive a customized certificate once successfully completed (online testing through both Online and Live offerings). This certificate will be available on the main 3DMAPS page of your account (where you access the content).
What are the certification offerings?
Online (8+ hours of content) or Live (one-day seminar, plus 8+ hours of online content) are the 2 certification offerings. Online is completed at your own pace. Live is a specific date and site selected when purchasing 3DMAPS. Once enrolled in either offering, you will have immediate access to the online content and 3DMAPS Exercise Library and App. This online content will be accessible (for both Online and Live offerings) for a period of 3 years upon purchase. Certification for both offerings is obtained through online testing.
What is meant by “Movement Professionals”?
Movement Professionals includes, but is not limited to, Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants, Personal Trainers, Strength and Conditioning Coaches, Physicians, Chiropractors, Athletic Trainers, Osteopaths, Occupational Therapists, Coaches, Physical Education Teachers, and anyone else working in the field of Human Movement.
What is the advantage in attending a live event for 3DMAPS?
Simply put, value-add. The live event is structured so that the attendees are able to hear the content and apply the content with a personal instructor that provides added context to the certification.
Is there a time period in which to finish the content / certification?
Once 3DMAPS is purchased, the practitioner has access to the online content for 3 years. Once certified, this content remains available to the practitioner and is able to be viewed as many times as desired.

CERTIFICATION IN APPLIED FUNCTIONAL SCIENCE (CAFS)

There is a drastic difference between traditional education and functional learning. Functional learning is also another way of saying Applied Functional Science® (AFS). AFS is the common thread to all that Gray Institute® delivers. AFS is based on scientific truth – not theory – that strategically links to the most effective and efficient techniques for the individual. Does your Program Design change with each patient / client / individual? How do you enhance certain body parts, while integrating with the rest of the body?

WHAT IS CAFS?

Your clients are unique. Why settle for a treatment program that approaches every case the same? Arm yourself with the premier certification that gives movement professionals the tools to develop custom assessment, treatment, and training programs tailor made for each individual. CAFS® is the first certification of its kind that will empower the movement professional to create treatments and programs for the client’s specific needs based on their individual abilities and goals.

CAFS gives movement professionals the tools to develop customized prevention, training, and treatment programs tailor-made for each individual. This certification focuses on ten (10) principal body parts – Foot / Ankle, Knee, Anterior Hip, Posterior Hip, Medial Hip, Lateral Hip, Lumbar Spine, Thoracic Spine, Cervical Spine, and Shoulder-Elbow-Hand Complex. Furthermore, this certification empowers you with “Local to Global Spectrum,” which allows one to tweak functional movements in a manner that integrates tri-plane motion at a body part and integrates with the rest of the body.

When it comes to movement and Program Design, there are many variables in which to consider and leverage in creating the best movement and program for the individual. CAFS teaches the ten (10) Observational Essentials, as well as provides numerous real-life examples in how to best incorporate these variables, which are Action, Environment, Position, Driver, Direction, Height, Distance, Load, Rate, and Duration. When it comes to fundamental movement patterns (Lunging, Squatting, Jumping, Reaching, Lifting, Pushing, Pulling, and Walking), it is no wonder how and why this certification changes the way one practices, treats, and trains … for the better!

WHO IS CAFS FOR?

This 25-hour online self study and 16 hour LIVE component delivers a comprehensive course designed for anyone one who is already a movement professional or looking to become one. CAFS is the perfect complement for any movement professional, from physical therapists, occupation and massage therapists, osteopaths, personal trainers, physicians, strength and conditioning coaches, and athletic trainers.

CAFS® was developed for movement professionals from all industries and from all levels. No prerequisites required however taking the 3DMAPS will be a huge asset to your overall learning!
